Tire chains are only available at selected rental sites.
In December of 2018, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism announced new regulations regarding the use of chains during times of heavy snowfall on specified highways and main roads. Roads that were originally closed to traffic due to special emergency warnings of exceptionally heavy snowfall may be passable, provided that the vehicle is equipped with tire chains. In such situations, studless tires must also be chained.
We ask that customers renting cars from sites that don't handle tire chains avoid driving in restricted areas during times of heavy snowfall. When driving through restricted areas is unavoidable, we ask that customers bring and use their own tire chains. If the rental car is damaged due to improper attachment of tire chains, please be aware that our insurance and compensation system will not cover the cost of repairs.
